As Curtis took his seat behind the defendant’s table, Jenna and her new lawyer husband, Pierce, were having words with one another as they crossed toward the plaintiff’s table. Pierce had been the lead attorney in the company’s legal team. He was considered a miracle worker in the company as he was instrumental in helping land several lucrative deals for the company. Some on the losing end of those deals insisted the legal team used strong-arm tactics to win. But nobody could ever prove it. His relationship with Jenna played out like every cliché in a movie. When Curtis and Jenna’s relationship turned contentious, Pierce was quick to swoop in and pick up the pieces. At first, Curtis had disregarded it, opting to focus on the company and keeping it afloat. Before long, it became more and more apparent that the friction between him and Jenna was the work of Pierce’s influence. He was likely the one who put her up to ousting Curtis from the company and taking it over. Pierce and Jenna’s body language was intense and stern as they passed the defendant’s table. Jenna recoiled, and her eyes widened at what Pierce said. The discussion seemed to escalate as Jenna became more agitated. “It’s going to be fine,” Pierce held up a reassuring hand and Jenna was assuaged for the moment. By the end of the conversation, Jenna had resigned herself to whatever Pierce had said to her, dejection in her eyes. Curtis’s heart threatened to bore a hole through his chest as the judge entered the courtroom to deliver the verdict.
